Mirroring, the Leonardo trick

Leonardo da Vinci wrote most of his notebooks in mirror script, right to left with the letters reversed. The romantic explanation is secrecy; the practical one is that he was left-handed and writing backwards kept his hand out of the wet ink.

The same two steps apply here as with flipping: each character is swapped for a reversed lookalike, and the order of the string is reversed so it reads correctly in the mirror.

Approximate by necessity

Unicode has no mirrored Latin alphabet, so the characters are borrowed from Cyrillic, Greek and the phonetic alphabets, picked for resemblance. Some are near-perfect — Я for R, Ƨ for S — and some are only close. Symmetrical letters like A, H and O need no substitute at all.
